Adding the Horns

Monte chose a water-based clay for his Ram and it started as a simple ball of clay on a metal stand to begin his artistic journey.

Horns and details are added at a much later time after the artist worked on the proper anatomy and facial structure of the Ram to his satisfaction.

To help provide strength and structure to the horns, they were first shaped with a flexible wire to gauge size and placement.

The Clay sculpture is completed and ready for the first round of mold making where a silicon mold will be created to cast a final positive for the next stage in the mold process.  All together there are nearly 15 stages of mold making, lost wax, bronze casting, chasing (welding) and finally the patina is added for the final touches.  This piece was created and cast by all Colorado artists, foundry and casting services.
